Star Suvarna, one of the leading entertainment Kannada channel is sensitive and subtly bringing about issues in society in its content. This time the channel is going a step ahead by focusing on gender bias. Mounaraga is an upcoming fiction show on Star Suvarna which promises to speak about gender equality and voices out against female foeticide in the country. The statistics of the previous census reveals appalling facts. 2.39 lakh girls below five years of age dies in India every year, around 1.2 crore Indian girls have been aborted since 1981. Such is the sad state of Girl Children in our country.
Being the organization that supports and empowers women in diverse ways, Star Suvarna is now launching the show Mounaraga. Mounaraga is the story and struggle of a girl who survives female foeticide but is born mute. Deprived of father’s love and affection even before her birth, for being a girl child and mute Raga faces the hardship of life every day. The only support Raga has is her mother’s unconditional love. Raga lives with the hope of receiving her father’s love one fine day.
In support of gender equality, the channel has started a campaign called #letherlive on social media. Parents are urged to tag a picture of them with their daughters using the #letherlive. Several successful female celebrities of Kannada film Industry have come forward to show their support for the cause. Stalwarts like Sudharani, Haripriya, Sudha Belavadi, Samyuktha Hornad, Mayuri have shown their support by speaking about the #letherlive campaign. The campaign has already garnered huge support from television viewers.
Star Suvarna has also tied up with CRY (Child Rights and You) foundation to support girl child education. CRY is working towards ensuring education for all girl children in India, out of which 13,330 girl children are in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Star Suvarna’s contribution of Rs 6,00,000 is towards this girl child campaign, helping girl children stay in school.
Mounaraga represents the story of thousands of girls in the country. Ravi. R. Garani renowned television director/ producer is producing the show under his RG Media Stuff company, while Tilak is heading the direction responsibilities. Samrat Ashok Gautham is the DOP of the show. Mounaraga, will be aired on Star Suvarna from Dec.17th onwards Monday to Saturday at 8.30pm.
