The inaugural session of The Inheritors series in Bengaluru celebrated long-term entrepreneurial success and vision of family businesses across India
India’s premier business and financial news company Bloomberg|Quint has recently flagged off the first edition of The Inheritors on July 27, 2018. The series aims at showcasing the massive contributions made by family businesses to the country’s economy. The exclusive, invite-only event was attended by 40 Family Business Owners, Founders, CEOs, Promoters and HNIs. Bloomberg|Quint leveraged its integrated, multiplatform digital approach to cover the on-ground event, delivering maximum reach and engagement.
Renowned names like Umesh Khaitan (Khaitan and Khaitan, Solicitors and Advocates), Muthu Murugappa (Parry Nutraceuticals), and Lavanya Nalli (Nalli Group of Companies) featured as the panelists at the event. Sonu Bhasin, the author of the bestseller The Inheritors and the Founder of Families & Businesses (FAB), presented and moderated the panel discussion.
The discussion highlighted issues such as culture within the family, as well as the need for open communication to keep the family and the business going. The panellists also spoke about dealing with ‘control’ and patriarchs, having the opportunities of exploring newer areas of business within the overall umbrella of family businesses.
Speaking about the event, Anil Uniyal, CEO, Bloomberg|Quint, said, “An integral part of the Indian economy, family businesses are amongst the top contributors to the GDP and the largest employers outside of the government. They also deliver better profitability, more consistently, as compared to their non-family-owned counterparts. It is therefore important not only to acknowledge and commemorate their success and achievements, but also to highlight how the most successful family enterprises manage their businesses. This is exactly what we aim to do with The Inheritors. We are delighted with the response that we have received for this initiative, and plan to take this to other major cities across India.”
Commenting on the launch of the series, Sonu Bhasin said, “Family Businesses are the unsung heroes of the Indian economy. We know that they are all around us, but we haven’t really acknowledged their contribution to the economy.”
Sharing his views Umesh Khaitan, the patriarch in the panel mentioned “I believe that open communication is the key to families in business staying connected. The Inheritors by Bloomberg|Quint had open conversation about some core issues of family businesses.”
Muthu Murugappan, representing the fifth generation of Murugappa group said, “The Inheritors by Bloomberg|Quint brought us together to have a much-needed conversation about matters that are important to us family businesses”.
Also sharing her thoughts, Lavanya Nalli the third panelist commented, “If you ask the last employee at Nalli what the company stands for, he or she will tell you. This is because we all live our values.”
