Bangalore: Kannada Prabha is amongst the oldest serving and most trusted Kannada dailies in Karnataka. It has just completed 50 years of publication and it is known for its journalistic values with true & dare spirit of reporting and is a regularly read by key decision makers.
Kiriya Sampadaka
Kannada Prabha’s flagship program “Kiriya Sampadaka” (Junior Editor) a part of Newspaper in Education, targeting the kids From age group 7-14 year. A 6-page special edition is distributed in leading schools across the state and gets the students to participate. The students then become editors of the newspaper and decide on the content they would like to publish. The winners are chosen based on the content and style of the newspaper produced.
Process
Over 50 personnel are deployed across districts approaching schools and explaining the concept to the school management. Interested students are then given the Newspaper activity sheet with a 10-day time frame to fill the newspaper with their creativity and intelligence. Filled newspapers are collected From schools and a dedicated team evaluate and shortlist the entries. This is then presented to an eminent Jury Panel to select the top 3 entries From each district and top 3 for the state. All the students at school level are given a participation certificate. District level winners are given a winner certificate along with a trophy and the Top 3 state winners are given a cash prize along with certificate of Recognition and trophies.
The activity reached out to more than 2 lakh children across Karnataka. This activity is aimed at creating a Student editor by displaying their skills in the assigned activities of the newspaper. Tapping the budding talent in the students, Kannada Prabha is creating future journalists in the Kannada Newspaper market.
With the attained trust for the last 50 years, Kannada Prabha promises to be part of Karnataka’s legacy and culture over the years to come.
