Mumbai: Ajit Thakur has joined the newly announced Media and Entertainment Business of Reliance Industries as the Head of Film Studios.
His assignment with the RIL’s Media and Entertainment Business started from Yesterday and he will be working with JyotiDeshpande, who heads the entity as President of the Chairman’s Office.
Prior to this assignment Ajit Thakur was the CEO of Trinity Pictures that was part of the Eros India since February 2015.
Apparently, the development is based on the recently announced Joint PartnershipbetweenMukeshAmbani owned Reliance and Eros India in which both the companies have agreed to partner in India to jointly produce and consolidate content from across India.
The parties had also equally invested up to INR 1,000 crores in aggregate (approximately USD150 million) to produce and acquire Indian films and digital originals across all languages.
Ajit Thakur will be playing crucial role in setting up the Film Studio Business of the new entity across India by exploring partnership with top creators and Media Houses.
The objective of the newly launched entity is to organically build and grow businesses around the content ecosystem such as Broadcasting, Films, Sports, Music, Digital, Gaming, Animation etc., as well as integrate RIL’s existing media investments such as Viacom and Balaji Telefilms.
Ajit is regarded as a firebrand Professional in India Media and Entertainment Industry for his outstanding performance during all his previous stints. He played pivotal role in driving Life OK to top spot in the rating charts during his stint with Star India and he was the driving force behind refreshing Sony Entertainment Television in 2010-11 that added new life to the channel.
After his stint with Coke and Unilever in UK, he came to India to explore his career in Media and Entertainment Industry and joined UTV Motion Picture in 2008. He played year long stint with EktaKapoor’sBalaji Motion Pictures.
Ajit Thakur is a alumni of Indian Institute of Management – Lucknow with an MBA in Strategy and Marketing.
