Chennai: The South Indian Artistes Association has expressed its serious objections to the Sun Music channel over the derogatory comments passed by its anchors on South India actor Suriya’s physical appearance while presenting a program titled “Franka Sollata” that stands for “frankly speaking’
The Artistes association in its letter to Sun TV Network condemned the act of its VJ Niveditha and VJ Sangeetha stating that one of its senior members and the respected actor, Surya, has been literally mocked and trolled in Sun Music channel and expressed its displeasure over such an indecent behaviour from the channel.
Further it reiterated that, an actor, just like any other citizen has the basic rights of privacy, personal space, basic respect, decency and equal protection under the law and a movie star may be in public eye but that doesn’t mean he can be mocked for his physical appearance in an indecent manner.
While welcoming constructive and decent criticism from Media, the association expressed its reservations over pejorative discussion like the recent one and demanded stern action to be taken against the hosts who exhibited such indecency and an assurance that the network channels will not telecast any further shows or talks of the similar nature.
In response to the letter, from the Artistes Association, the channel is most likely to take action on the concerned anchors. It is understood that VJ Niveditha has allegedly left the channel ending her decade long association with the channel.
Reacting to this issue actor Surya has tweeted to his fans “Let us not undermine our esteem and self respect by responding to the cheap behaviour, make use of your time and effort constructively for the benefit of the society”.
