The Senior Executive level exodus continues in the Asian video-on-demand platform HOOQ with its Chief Marketing Officer Ravi Vora is set to leave the company next month, continuing the platform’s apparent tendency towards a high executive turnover.
Ravi Vora joined HOOQ in September 2015 after quitting e-Commerce platform Flipkart as its Marketing Head. He was heading the global marketing initiative if the OTT Platform. While we were unable to ascertain Vora’s next move, In last 18 months of operations, the OTT player witnessed its CFO, CTO and head of strategy leave over a succession of months.
Scott Lee joined HOOQ as chief strategy officer in August 2015 and moved on in September last year. The former CTO Michael Smith Jnr also only lasted a year at the company, having left in April 2016. He was finally replace by ex-BBC Worldwide CTO Michael Fleshman in February this year.
In December last year, HOOQ appointed OTT industry veteran Michael D’Oliveiro as its country manager for Singapore. Three months later, HOOQ founder and Chief Content Officer Krishnan Rajagopalan also parted ways with the company, and has since not moved to a new position.
The Chief executive officer and co-founder Peter Bithos remains one of the last early players still standing at HOOQ.
HOOQ became the first Asia-born OTT platform when it launched in the Philippines in January 2015. It is now backed by a joint partnership of Singtel, Sony and Warner Brothers. The platform now reaches viewers across Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, The Philippines and India, giving them access to its library of 20,000 movies and TV series.
Although originally a content aggregator, the service has started delving into creating its own original content. Last month, the film Saranair Love You became the first film backed by HOOQ to receive a theatrical release in Thailand.
HOOQ has also co-produced several other Asian originals from Indonesia, including Critical Eleven, Sweet 20 and Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts.
