New Delhi: While the journalists and various bodies representing journalists across India are vigorously protesting against the brutal killing of the Bangalore based Senior female journalist Gauri Lankesh, the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ), One of the largest body that comprises various state level Journalists associations across India, has strongly condemned the heinous act of suppressing the freedom of Press.
IFWJ has announced that it will hold protest at JantarMantar against the brutal killing of Gauri Lankesh and other journalists shortly. The President of IFWJ Com. K VikramRao has condemned the brutal killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Banglore.
GauriLankesh was a journalist and a social activist. She is the daughter of well-known poet and writer P Lankesh. She founded her own newspaper “GauriLankeshPatrika, which was facing a defamation case and she was convicted and sentenced to six months in jail. Gauri was out on bail when she was shot-dead. She had appealed against her sentencing.
The statement issued by IFWJ’s incharge of Social Media Cell VishwadevRao state that IFWJ Working Committee demands that a thorough probe should be carried out and her killers should be arrested.
IFWJ Secretary General H B MadanGowda has demanded a CBI enquiry into the incident similar to the one carried out in the journalist RajdevRanjan killing in Siwan, Bihar. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had ordered a CBI enquiry on the IFWJ’s plea. Dreaded criminal and politician Mh. Shahabuddin has been convicted in the murder. A letter to this effect has been sent to Karnataka CM Sri. Siddharamiya.
IFWJ President K VikramRao and legal advisor Mr. Ashwani K Dubey had recently met the Vice President of India Sri. M Venkaiah Naidu for implementation of the Journalist Protection Act, which is the IFWJ’s initiative. IFWJ demands that the Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi should consider implementing the “Journalist Protection Act” in the next session of Parliament.
Various Journalists association across Tamil Nadu under the leadership of IFWJ’s Tamil Nadu state affiliated body Working Journalists Union of Tamilnadu (WJUT) has conducted protest at Chennai Chepauk, condemning the killing and continuing attacks and oppressions against the Journalists.
