Delhi: The leader English News Channel Republic TV had managed win over another legal battle as the Delhi High Court has turned down ShasiTharoor plea to gag the channel from reporting on SunandaPushkar case.
In yet another firecracker of a hearing today, the Delhi High court refused to pass interim orders against Repubic TV as the Judge stated that Republic TV cannot be stopped from investigating the case.
An interim application had been moved by Tharoor asking for several restrictions to be put on Republic TV’s investigation in the SunandaPushkar probe.
Tharoor lawyer, Salman Khurshid, argued in court that Republic shouldn’t call the Sunanda death a “murder” and desist from calling names to Tharoor. In return Republic TV’s Counsel, Senior Advocate SandeepSethi, told the High Court that republic had not called Tharoor any names.
Instead, the counsel exposed the hateful tweets of Mr Tharoor, wherein he had called Republic TV a “Toilet Roll” and “Cretin”
Senior Counsel Sethi further highlighted How Tharoor was assaulting and insulting Republic TV reporters and not letting them attend his Press conferences.
He also countered Salam Khurshid’s argument by justifying the fact that Republic TV was not wrong when they call it murder, as there is an FIR filed under section 302 for murder. He added that two days back a High Court Bench pulled up the Delhi Police in a PIL.
Republic TV also exposed serious charges arising after Dr Sudhir Gupta statement on the case and it contended that Republic TV has just shown all the Lapses of investigation but it haven’t called him names.
The Judge told Tharoor’s lawyer several times stating, “as a journalist he is investigating we can’t stop him”… The Judges asked Republic not to call anyone names to which Republic’s Counsel replied that no names were being called.
Finaaly, The Delhi High Court has asked Republic to reply to their interim application by 16th August when case comes up for hearing.
