Mumbai: Amazon has signed a long-term exclusive content syndication deal with Lionsgate to show the latter’s films, television episodes and upcoming new releases. The move is part of aggressive content deals signed by Amazon Prime Video in the recent past that triggered the potential value of online video market in India.
Amazon Prime Video has also came as a blessing in disguise for many yesteryear content houses in the country that has brought in new lease of revenues for their library content.
The deal makes Amazon Prime Video India the definitive subscription streaming home for Lionsgate content, and Amazon will now have access to blockbuster films such as La La Land; Deepwater Horizon; The Divergent Series: Allegiant; upcoming 2017 releases Power Rangers, The Shack. Such content will not be available through the traditional Indian satellite players or other pay-TV providers.
