Bengaluru: Zee Kannada has emerged as the Market leader in Bangalore City with a margin of 26 GRPs ahead of the Market leader Colors Kannada. The Channel also is fast closing its gap with the Colors Kannada in Total Karnataka Market with just 75 GRPs difference to snatch the top spot. This will be the best moment for the Channel to celebrate its decade year (10th Year) of operations in Kannada GEC Market.
According to the BARC data for the week 20, Zee Kannada has scored 475 GRPs in Bangalore city in All 4+ TG against Colors Kannada’s 449 GRP, while Suvarna (183 GRP) and Udaya TV (171 GRP) settled for a distant No. 3 and No. 4
Ever since Raghavendra Hunsur took charge as the new Business Head of Zee Kannada from Siju Prabhakaran by Mid of November, the young Creative talent let his dreams start flowing at will and took the market leader head-on to snatch the leadership in the Capital city within less than 8 month of reaching the helm of affairs. He rolled out many new fiction and nonfiction properties one after the other and most of them happen to be very successful.
Zee Kannada witnessed many new launches in the recent past, in which they managed to improvise the existing prime properties like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (Season 11) and Weekend with Ramesh (Season 2) and managed to mark a grand opening for the Kids acting talent show Drama Juniors. The channel also launched Dance Karnataka Dance on 21st May, which is a localised version of the Zee TV’s all India property Dance India Dance (DID) that is also expected to open well.
On the fiction front the channel managed to bring in huge audience in its prime time band at 9:00 PM with the launch of Naagini. The fantasy fiction show is the slot leader ever since its inception and running successfully with an average of 6.3 TVR. It also accomplished Zee Kannada’s mission to penetrate Rural Karnataka Market considerably.
While maintaining a continuous leadership in Non-fiction front, the Grand Finale of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Season 11 scored 7.1 TVR and the Maha Episode of Drama Juniors delivered 7.3 TVR.
Less than a year before, Colors Kannada was holding a strong leadership in the Kannada GEC Market with extraordinary leadership and wide gap of difference in GRPs over others. Whereas the scenario has changed drastically in the past couple of months. Zee Kannada became the Strong No. 2 player in week 4 and week 5 of 2016 and within next 15 weeks from there on (week 20), the channel went on to become the No. 1 GEC in Bangalore City.
According to the BARC data for week 20, Colors Kannada was the market leader with 225583 Impressions, while Zee Kannada at No. 2 stood at its best with 190600 Impressions. Suvarna at No. 3 witnessed 140283 Impressions followed by Udaya TV with 135644 Impressions.
Zee Kannada is planning to celebrate its 10th year of operations in Karnataka Market. Similar to the one which was done by Zee Telugu last year and big announcements are expected from the channel in this regard shortly.
