Vocanic has named Shreeniwas V Iyer, the GroupM social media agency’s chief technology officer, as CEO to replace founder Ian McKee.
Iyer moves into the top job after almost six years with Vocanic and was the “natural choice” to lead the agency, GroupM CEO Puneet Arora has said.
McKee abruptly left the business he founded 11 years ago in March, and Vocanic’s key client StarHub departed soon after.
Iyer, who has been the Chief Technological Officer for the social media agency the last six years, will be stepping into his new role effective immediately.
Vocanic was acquired by GroupM in 2014, and is headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand.
Iyer takes over from Ian McKee, founder and CEO of Vocanic, who parted ways with the agency in March, and will remain based in Singapore.
“With over 12 years of experience in Internet products, with the last few years in Vocanic EXCO team, Shreeni was the natural choice to take on this leadership role,” Puneet Arora, CEO of GroupM Singapore and Philippines, said.
Iyer will be responsible for the agency’s operations, growth strategy, partnerships, talent management and client satisfaction across all of Vocanic markets.
Iyer said of his appointment: “Vocanic presents a unique combination of technology, services and a strong legacy of working for clients’ business needs across all customer social touch points.
“I would like to thank the GroupM management for providing me this opportunity to take Vocanic through its next phase of development. It’s a privilege for me to extend my involvement at Vocanic to functions beyond technology.”
